The practice of massage therapy dates back to the days of cave drawings and stone tools, and why not when it's such a natural, simple way to feel good? Before painkillers and muscle relaxers, there was only massage to treat the aches and pains we so readily medicate in Western society.
Fortunately, the ancient art of massage has, in recent decades, return to form as a safe, healthy way to resuscitate those muscles and relax in general.
Now I know what your thinking: "Was massage therapy ever not popular?"
Of course not. The practice did, however, become stigmatized due to an inordinate amount of prostitution rings operating as "massage parlors" that offered the now infamous "happy ending." This wave of criminal operation nearly crippled the legitimate massage industry, which has long known the incredible benefits of their craft. Today, massage clinics (they left the term "parlor" behind with the stigma) are popping up all over the nation, with small businesses and corporations alike taking their piece of the "pain relief pie".
You may be asking: "Besides working the knots out of my neck, what good is massage therapy?"
Glad you asked. Massage therapy has also enjoyed a boost in popularity due to the incredible scientific findings of recent years. Massage has been found to be therapeutic for stress, anxiety, and is even said to promote greater levels of energy in its participants. Are you the easy-going, high strung type? Perhaps you would be more interested in the findings that massage can actually assist in weight loss. Cancer is something we all try tirelessly to avoid, but in those who are afflicted, massage has been shown to decrease levels of pain and anxiety both before and during treatment. To really drive the nail in, massage has been linked to lowered blood pressure, decreased heart rate, increases lymph flow and endorphins, and increases range of motion.
