Aromatherapy and Sexual Health
While you might not immediately consider aromatherapy as a way to improve your sexual health and wellbeing, its something that's been used for thousands of years (not only for passion, but for nearly every other human need).
Humans respond very strongly to smells. Aromatherapy builds on that idea by using keynote scents aimed at specific responses. Most aromatherapy treatments utilize essential oil, some of which can be costly. In your own home, where essential oils may be absent, you still have a variety of aromatic herbs right on your pantry shelf that can be used to benefit your bedroom energy and enjoyment.
The Importance of Sexual Health
Sexuality is a very important part of your overall wellness, in mind, body, and spirit. Humans need touch, love, and intimacy to become well-rounded persons. When individuals struggle with sexual identity and expression it often negatively impacts other parts of their lives including health. Someone experiencing dysfunction, for example, may also develop stress-related disorders due to the emotional impact.
Aromatherapy offers us one very gentle and non-invasive way of supporting our overall sexual wellness.
Pausing for Passion:
It won't take you a lot of time or a great deal of experience to use aromatherapy as an aid for sexual health – just a little mindfulness. The number one rule is avoiding any herbs or aromatics to which you (or your partner) could be allergic. There's nothing sexy about itching or sneezing.
A second rule to sexual health and wellbeing is stop rushing. We spend a lot of time hurrying through life. Choose aromatics that help you relax, slow down and truly enjoy the moment.
By a Nose:
So what aromatics might you use to bring love, energy, and passion into your sexual interactions? Here are just a few ideas:
-
Cleansing & Purification: our bodies and living spaces carry a lot of excess garbage energetically. This can really put a damper on passion. Get rid of the negativity by using purifying scents like sage, lemon, or pine. If you have sandalwood incense that works too.
-
Relaxation: the most prevalent aroma recommended to ease stress is lavender. Other alternatives include almond and jasmine. I like to put the essential oils in a diffuser so they create an embracing ambiance.
-
Pick me ups: If your energy is off after a long day, seek out energetic aromatics like grapefruit, ginger and cinnamon.
-
Zeal: want to get that blood pumping and add a little sizzle? The scents to seek include mint, rose, and patchouli (be very careful with the last one or it can overwhelm).
Be careful how you bring the aromas you choose into the environment. Too many different scents can have just the opposite effect than for what you're hoping. For example, use the purifying oils as part of your house cleaning before your partner arrives. Use the relaxation aromatics in the main living space, and move the aphrodisiac aromatherapy blends into the bedroom proper. This way each space offers a natural transition that facilitates sexual pleasure, health and wellbeing for both people.
